Information Technology

The provision of Information and Communication Technologies at Tuart Hill Primary School expands the range of teaching and learning opportunities available to staff and students.  Access to these services will enable improvement in learning outcomes and effective integration across the West Australian Curriculum.

Educating students for a rapidly changing world makes it is important for them to learn to use technology constructively and effectively.  The agreement below will enable students and their parents to understand the guidelines for the acceptable use of ICT services.

Student Leaders

At Tuart Hill Primary School, we believe students need to be at the centre of their learning and should have true ownership in their school. Students are given opportunities to have input into decisions, voice concerns and make suggestions to improve their school, as well as being supported to become more aware of the wider community.

Leadership is integral to life-long learning. All students should have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate leadership skills. Student leadership at Tuart Hill Primary include School Leaders, Faction Captains, Media Managers, Mentors, Business and Enterprise and Ambassador leadership roles.

Being a Student Leader is a very important role at Tuart Hill Primary and it will allow you the opportunity to demonstrate your leadership qualities. Student Leaders are the people the rest of the school looks up to and the effort you put into the role will be greatly appreciated by staff, students and parents.

Mobile Phone and Devices

The Department of Education does not permit student use of mobile phones in public schools unless for medical or teacher directed educational purpose. It is recognised that there are a growing number of students who have a mobile phone for use outside of school hours. As such, the school is required to ensure effective boundaries are in place to minimise the risk of theft and the inappropriate use of mobile phones.

For the purpose of this policy, ‘mobile phones’ include smart watches, other electronic communication devices, and associated listening accessories, such as, but not limited to, headphone and ear buds. We strongly discourage students bringing mobile phones, smart watches and any mobile electronic device that is Wi-Fi enabled to school.

Any electronic device brought to school must be handed in to the Administration Office staff at the start of the day, to be collected at the end of the school day.

Working with Children

The Working with Children (WWC) Check is a compulsory criminal check for many people who work with children in Western Australia.

At Tuart Hill Primary School, we make it a priority to check that any person coming in to the school holds a current Working with Children Check. Please ensure you have your Working with Children Check card with you at all times to support your PassTab Sign in; thank you.

Student Engagement Plan

The Tuart Hill Primary School PBS team will guide the whole school community to develop a common understanding of expected behaviours and how to explicitly teach and reinforce these through positive interactions.

This will create a community that works together to promote:

  • learning
  • excellence
  • care and
  • equity

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a positive school-wide approach to behaviour management. It builds on and integrates a range of existing strategies to improve behaviour, learning and safety. It is a proactive approach whereby expected behaviours are explicitly taught, allowing students to make better choices. PBS views inappropriate behaviour in the same manner that problems in reading or mathematics are viewed … as a skill deficit. When a skill deficit exists, we must teach the appropriate skill. PBS is an evidence-based approach which focuses on early intervention and emphasises self- discipline.

The purpose of PBS is to support the school vision and encourage ownership from the whole school community to develop:

  • A positive, respectful culture, which supports a safe learning community;
  • A common, shared language to encourage expected behaviour, that is explicitly taught and monitored;
  • Clear expectations and a consistent approach to support achievable goals valued by the wider community; and
  • Citizens who are equipped to make positive and confident choices now and in the future.

Anaphylaxis Aware

Our school is Anaphylaxis Aware. This means our school community is AWARE that some of our students may have a potentially life threatening allergic response to a range of triggers; therefore we AVOID bringing trigger foods onto the school grounds, and we take ACTION should any student, staff member, parents or volunteer experience symptoms of Anaphylaxis.

Your class teacher will have alerted you to any students in your cohort who live with allergies at your Class Meeting; thank you for your support in avoiding packing any trigger foods for your child/ren; parents of students living with anaphylaxis are most appreciative.

Sun Smart

Our Sun Protection Policy has been developed to ensure that all students, staff, parents and visitors attending Tuart Hill Primary School are protected from skin damage caused by harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun.

Hats

The school requires students to wear a sun safe broad brimmed hat whilst in the open all year. Our expectation is that students will wear the approved sun safe school hat. Parents are responsible for providing this item. Please be aware that the prescribed School hat MUST be worn when our students participate in off-site excursions. Failure to remember your red school hat may result in exclusion from that particular excursion.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is available and accessible to staff and students in classrooms and around the school grounds e.g. at the school office, Physical Education office or canteen. All students and staff are encouraged to apply SPF30 or higher broad-spectrum water resistant sunscreen 20 minutes before going outdoors e.g. prior to school, before lunch, PE lessons, sports, excursions etc.
